I'm an Ubuntu user, not Debian, but I had problems figuring out where it installed things for GNUstep. I finally figured out parts are installed in /usr/lib/GNUstep and other parts (including the Makefiles directory with GNUstep.sh) are under /usr/share/GNUstep. How would I go about using the Gnustep sources in my Ubuntu repository to compile Gnustep according to Etoile parameters? I can't seem to svn the source because of restrictions on my broadband, server not responding, that kind of thing. Oh well, looks like you had some fun anyways. I basically installed Ubuntu, then installed about a zillion packages using Synaptic, and got the sources for Gnustep from the repository, compiled, and everything is working.
